Benefits of Installing a PV System

There are a multitude of benefits of installing a PV system in your home. The best known benefits of solar energy are of course environmental – as solar energy is a green, renewable energy resource.

Environmental Benefits of Installing a PV System

Traditional electricity is created by burning fossil fuels (coal, gas and oil) which emit toxic gases, including Carbon Dioxide, causing much pollution and are also the primary cause of global warming. However electricity produced from solar energy doesn’t produce any such emissions and is very much a ‘green’ energy source.

Another benefit of solar energy over fossil fuels is that it is an unlimited, renewable resource; whereas fossil fuels are a finite resource and are quickly running out. Solar power is a sustainable long-term option for electricity production, and is seen by many to be an ideal solution for providing energy on a home by home scale – effectively making people, in terms of energy, self-sufficient within their homes.

Financial Benefits of Installing a PV System

Financially there has never been a better time to go solar at home. In April 2010 the government introduced the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme to encourage people to produce their own solar energy. The scheme basically consists of you receiving payment from the government, for every unit of energy you produce, over the course of time this money had really add up and not only could you save money, but you could also potentially make money! Not only this, but you also receive 3p per Kwh of energy you produce but don’t use, this is paid for by your energy supplier who then use the energy elsewhere.
